Taiwan Day 1

Can I just say that twelve and a half hours is a looooooooooooooooong time to spend in an airplane?

By the time it was time to board last night, we were all pretty tired; Logan fell asleep in the terminal.

Luke regained some energy when we boarded the 747. "Wow!" was all he could say, taking in the 10 seats per row and the individual video screens. Then, "Daddy, this is a really cool airplane!"

Both boys slept quite a bit during the flight, all things considered. Molly and I not so much, but we did get some sleep. The plane wasn't full, so we were able to stretch out a little.

We landed in Taiwan at 5:15 this morning, and had no problems with our luggage, immigration, or customs, other than the customs official who was inadvertently in the background when I decided, "what the heck - might as well act like a tourist," and took a picture of Molly and the boys in front of the "Welcome to Taiwan" sign. He shook his finger at me for taking his picture, but fortunately that was the worst that happened to me.

Wen Ling and her husband picked us up, and they took us to McDonald's for breakfast. The boys have been nervous about the food they'll have on our trip, so they were relieved. A teenage girl who was fascinated by the boys said hello to Luke.

We're staying in what is essentially a condo that Wen Ling owns and is planning to rent out. It's just around the corner from her house in their gated community. We actually saw a couple of Americans at the market this morning.

We're trying to stay awake to get adjusted to the time change. The boys are swimming in the pool at the moment. Then I think we'll take a nap this afternoon before the boys hit the wall.
